Friends & Family Capital (F&FC) is seeking an analyst to contribute to all aspects of the fund’s research and investment processes. The analyst will have a strong interest in investing in the venture asset class and will have commensurate experience to perform broad and specific due diligence. The analyst will also gain the experience of meaningful partnerships with portfolio companies to scale finance functions, often involving iteration cycles with founding teams and CFOs to crystalize their financial models and operations. The team is focused on hiring an analyst who is diligent, measured, thoughtful, intellectually curious, creative, and persistent. The analyst will be a skillful individual that is able to absorb disparate information and synthesize a formed conclusion.

Most importantly, the analyst will be a team player and will carry a positive attitude emblematic of the team’s culture. The analyst will play a centric role on the team and will interact daily with the firm’s founding partners and other team members. Each member of the F&FC team brings a unique skill set that complements the other team members, and all team members are dedicated to the continuous building of F&FC as a means to help transform big markets through technology.

The analyst role is structured to be 2-3 years in duration with exemplary next steps of joining a high-growth technology company in a finance, research, strategy, or Chief of Staff role, or building a career in investing. Location for the analyst role is remote within the US.

Strategic Analyst Role Skill Set, Qualifications and Characteristics

  • 1-3 years of investment banking, investing (public or private markets), private company investor relations or strategic finance (preferably at a technology company)

  • A strong core knowledge of three statement financial modeling and building financial models from a blank excel sheet

  • Intricate understanding of how financial statements work and flow together

  • Outstanding presentation building skills, from inception and ideation to final product

  • An ability to take complex ideas and simplify them into a digestible format

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • A creative mind and a measured approach to solving problems

  • A base understanding of financial markets

  • Familiarity with CapIQ, Pitchbook and other financial research platforms

  • Deep interest in financial markets and technology space

  • Self-motivated and the ability to work in both an autonomous manner (remote first environment) and in a collaborative environment

  • An insatiable curiosity to understand how the world works and how venture investing, new technologies and innovation fit into the broader economy

  • Team before individual mentality – this is the most important quality as a member of the F&FC team

    • We are a remote team, which often translates to different work hours outside of respective time zone, with every member of the team being important to the success of the fund

 

Strategic Analyst Role Responsibilities

  •  Market research

    • Our team conducts extensive research on thematic trends, the venture ecosystem, financial metrics, and private and public market companies

  • Idea generation across different mediums – assisting with research projects, such as market opportunity maps, and comparable company analyses

  • Developing investment diligence presentations on potential opportunities

  • Working directly with portfolio companies to assist in building their finance functions

  • Assisting with fundraising and marketing materials

  • Willingness to contribute to other ad hoc projects that relate to the building of F&FC
