As a Senior Associate on the Kraken Ventures team, you will work closely with the fund’s Partners and will receive significant deal evaluation and execution responsibility. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing investment firm at an exciting stage of its development. You will be involved in research, investment sourcing, analysis, due diligence & documentation. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, passionate about FinTech/Crypto/Blockchain and an enthusiastic self-starter who works on his/her own initiative with light supervision. Additionally, s/he is confident and positive, high-energy, professional, and capable of easily interacting with founders as well as investors. The ideal candidate is agile and willing to get involved in many different aspects of the business as required. This individual must have a strong background in private equity or venture capital, banking, consulting, or startup operations. Four years of work experience is required. The skills essential to succeed in this position include sector analysis/research, project management, data analysis, financial modeling, business writing, reporting and tracking portfolio company performance, and sales/networking to build relationships with the most promising startups and impressive co-investors in the candidate’s geography. Candidates must have attention to detail and the ability to execute quickly and effectively. Comfort with ambiguity and a collaborative approach are critical to success.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Deal Sourcing and Sector Analysis: Perform market research to help identify new investment trends and opportunities
  • Identify promising deals through fielding inbound and outbound inquiries as well as referrals from members and co-investors
  • Screen deals through calls and/or meetings with prospects to evaluate opportunities
  • Document investment opportunity and thesis via thorough summary call/meeting notes and entering deals into CRM
  • Network with peers in early-stage investing including other venture capital firms, angel networks, and venture studios – particularly in the candidate’s geography
  • Performing Due Diligence: Perform valuation analysis via modeling and comparable analysis
  • Author internal investment memos including an unbiased analysis of the opportunity and investment thesis
  • Gather information from the target company and industry experts
  • Gather insights from existing and potential customers of the target company
  • Research and speak with technical/business experts to evaluate the target company’s technology/product including IP

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of investment / operating experience (venture capital, private equity, investment banking or consulting) focused on the FinTech and/or Crypto/Blockchain sectors
  • Outstanding analytical and research skills
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, self-motivated, with a bias towards action
  • Ability to prioritize in a fast-pace environment, act with a sense of urgency, and work with little supervision even when faced with incomplete information
  • Good grasp of and interest in venture capital and startup ecosystems
  • Understanding of cash flow modeling and investment valuation techniques
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with ability to clearly articulate the investment thesis and case for or against an investment
  • Superior EQ with ability to build relationships across various and diverse set of stakeholders
  • Ensures accountability with self and others
  • Candid, transparent, comfortable having difficult conversations and providing open yet respectful dialogue with founder and co-investment partners
  • Intellectually honest, humble, creative, curious, eager to learn, and teach
  • Loves working with people who are driven, creative, sometimes challenging and always passionate
