We believe that great companies deliver both purpose and profit and invest in innovators building high-growth and profit-driven companies with global potential and positive impact.

The Sandpiper team is dedicated to generating growth and wealth both for the women leading their portfolio companies and for women as investors.

The Sandpiper Ventures Senior Financial Analyst is Atlantic Canada based and manages all investment considerations being made by the Sandpiper Investment Committee and General Partners. You will work directly on all aspects of day-to-day fund operations and activities from fundraising to pipeline and portfolio company support. Specifically you will:

  1. Lead in aspects of due diligence on new investments (business analysis, industry thesis, competitive landscape, business/pricing model, and financial modeling / deal structuring)
  2. Read/review business plans and pitch decks
  3. Assess market/company attractiveness to help identify compelling businesses
  4. Work in a strategic capacity with Sandpiper Ventures’ existing portfolio companies as needed
  5. Prepare market analyses and presentations to drive investment decisions and for engagement with the firm’s extensive network of corporate relationships
  6. Will participate in and be asked to contribute to weekly internal meetings in which new investments and portfolio companies are discussed
  7. Use HubSpot to document and track all activities
  8. Other duties as assigned and discussed

WHO YOU ARE:

We are looking for someone with 3 – 5 years relevant experience in corporate financial, financial planning and analysis, investment banking or something similar. You have a relevant undergraduate degree and perhaps you have your CPA or are working towards it. You have an interest in early-stage technology ecosystem and start-ups and perhaps experience within the ecosystem.

You’re someone who loves analysis and data and can clearly communicate the implication of all that you read and evaluate. You love to use Excel and other tools to dig into data and discover hidden nuggets of information. Along with that, you can interpret this information to provide recommendations and clear analysis of the situation at hand. You have strong verbal and written skills and demonstrated ability to produce and deliver clear and concise oral, written and PowerPoint presentations.

You listen to founders and ask probing questions, to get to the source of their success and uncover areas on which to focus. You’ll identify the “why” behind their organization and determine if it aligns with Sandpiper’s investment thesis.

As we’re a small and mighty team, we look for you to have excellent organization skills, be detail-oriented and have a self-starter mentality. We want you to take initiative and work independently, sometimes remotely. We are an “all hands” sort of organization and hope you are too! Even if you don’t have all the requirements listed in this position, you may be the right candidate. If you are a leader with a strong attention to detail with financial analysis experience and expertise, we want to hear from you. Take a chance and apply. Tell us how you can make a difference.

We are a predominantly virtual organization, with ability to gather face to face regularly and as needed. We believe in supporting individuals at all stages of their career. And we provide flexibility and understanding of the need to integrate all aspects of life into who you are when you’re part of the Sandpiper team.

The salary is competitive and will be discussed with our short-listed candidates. This is a full-time position, with associated vacation allotment and opportunities for annual performance bonuses.
